2. This song was apparently written to praise George V, who according to the story, the song praises as “Overlord of India’s destiny”. It was first sung on at an occasion dedicated to welcoming George V to India. This story, according to The Indian Express, was this:

“He got up very early in the morning and wrote a very beautiful poem…. When he came down, he said to one of us, ‘Here is a poem which I have written. It is addressed to God, but give it to Congress people. It will please them.”
